Back in 2015, when the VA chassis WRX / STI was launched, USDM vehicles had a different grille style from JDM models. Their clean mesh design without a horizontal bar became extremely popular in the US. This inspired the 2018+ JDM - style grille. After the facelift, the whole world got the same grille.
