It's designed to prevent exhaust leaks, a common issue with other designs. The 2.5" machined lip flange fits snugly into the downpipe and transitions to a 3.0" diameter for your midpipe or catback. It's suitable for 2.5"/OEM downpipes and 3.0" midpipes/catbacks and might work for other applications too.
